Gluten Free Foods at Meijer

Meijer understands that Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance are becoming more common in the United States and that many of our customers are recommended to follow a gluten free diet.

The diagnosis of Celiac disease is increasing. In fact, approximately 1 in 133 people in the US are positive for the celiac disease antibody. This disease damages the small intestine and decreases nutrient absorption. Continuing to eat gluten-containing foods can put these individuals at risk for anemia and malnutrition. Therefore, the only treatment for celiac disease is to follow a gluten free diet, which includes eliminating wheat, rye, barley and oats. Following this diet may help reduce or stop symptoms, may repair intestinal damage and may prevent further damage.

It may also be a good idea to meet with a dietitian in your area to discuss a specific gluten-free diet that is best for you. Also, take advantage of the resources we have provided for you. Celiac disease support groups are a great way to meet people with the same condition and trade hints and ideas.

We are excited to say that in most Meijer stores* there is a four to eight foot Healthy Living section that contains a variety of gluten free foods. You will usually find the gluten free set near the sugar free/diabetic foods. Also, select Meijer stores will have additional gluten free items in other Healthy Living sections throughout the grocery aisles.

We want to provide the products and information that you want and need to help provide simple solutions for a healthier life
